            Research Assistant

                        New Mexico Tech—Plasma Spray-Formed Crucibles for Reactive Metals

                        July 2005—Present

·         SG-100 plasma spray gun used to form crucibles and pourspouts for uranium and plutonium.  Established spray parameters and crack detection methods.

·         Developed method for depositing silicon onto tool steels using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition.

                        RadShield—Thermal Degradation of Radiation Shielding

                        March 2005—June 2005

·         Heat treatment and tensile tests for grommets and tear samples used for radiation shielding in the nuclear power industry.

Virginia Tech—Lithium di-Silicate Glass Ceramic Applications

                        January 2005—March 2005

·         Led a team of volunteers to develop methods for casting lithium di-silicate glass for use in the ACerS Mug Drop Competition.

                        Virginia Tech—Bonding of Alumina/Sapphire

                        September 2003—August 2004

·         Used bonding aid to lower the firing temperature required to produce a hermetic seal in alumina/alumina and alumina/sapphire assemblies.
