HEALTH:
They mostly stay in the bottom third of the tank and hunt for food in the gravel. Sometimes, they can be really active and swim all the way to the surface, however. At least one of these should be in most tanks because they are a real "maintenance" fish. They are fairly hardy and do not need perfect conditions to survive. I know of a tank where a heater malfunctioned and killed EVERY fish in a 20 gallon tank- except the albino catfish, who was just as happy and healthy as could be. An occasional tablet or other sinking food will help them to grow big, but is not necessary.
SOCIAL:
These fish are peaceful. They will not harm any other fish, and they do not mind being the only one of their kind in a tank. They are, however, blind. They have simple eyes that can tell whether they are in light or dark, which alerts them to danger: if a big fish swims over them, they will often panic.
